Personal reflection:

When I looked at the title of the story, I had an idea in my mind. I guessed that the story was a modern version of Snow White, and actually the story did fit what I thought. I think that children must like adapted story because they like to read innovative story. According to my childhood experiences, I remembered that I had listened or read the same fairy tale at least ten times in total. To tell the truth, at that time, the original versions of fairy tales did not appeal to me anymore. Therefore, I began getting interested in the adapted versions of fairy tales, and I would read them to satisfy my curiosity. I think that perhaps many children have the same experiences like me.
Why do these adapted versions appeal to children? In my opinion, the first reason is certainly what I just said above. Children have been familiar with original versions, so they want to read something innovative to satisfy their curiosity. Second, some content of adapted versions are close to modern life, and children can have clear image in their mind. Take this story ' Snow White in New York ' for example, and we can see from background information of this story. In the beginning, the scene of the original Snow White is set in a castle. However, the adapted Snow White is set in New York. As far as I am concerned, the scene of the original Snow White is more abstract than the adapted one because it's hard to see a castle in real life. Moreover, when children think of castle, what they think is only prince and princess. Nonetheless, New York is a state in the USA, and children's impression for New York is mainly blonde foreigners and high buildings here and there. Therefore, before reading the story, children have had an image for the story, and they will be curious about how Snow White becomes in New York.
